New Brunswick’s Occupational Health and Safety Act has a number of requirements for the management and mitigation of occupational asbestos exposure. 
A Code of Practice for Working with Materials Containing Asbestos in New Brunswick, prepared in March, 1992 must be followed if an employee works with or disturb material containing asbestos.
The practice includes, but is not limited to:
- The proper sampling and laboratory analyses conducted for asbestos containing materials (ACM)
- Discarded ACM must follow the regulations by the New Brunswick Department of the Environment
- Workers are trained in the safe work procedures for and handling of ACM
- Workers are provided with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as determined.¹
